James has 20 years of writing, composing and performing experience, and a voice of extraordinary range, tone and control, playing a fluent melodic blues harp. Instantly likable tunes of unique character, humor and human vulnerability, often compared to Randy Newman in style, and nineteen sixties folk rock and obscure Delta blues, James Butt writes challenging songs of passion in these increasingly complex times.

James has toured central australia, playing in communities, and many capital cities and towns. He has busked on countless street corners, markets and malls, and played in festivals & community events, gaining the admiration of many who are now fans of both his music and art.

James' live shows feature his own large and beautiful paintings as a landscape theater backdrop. A personal colour setting for the concert and stories he tells. These paintings are inspired by the Australian landscape, particularly the Otway ranges and the Great Southern coastline of Victoria.

The Great Diversity and substance of a James Butt concert is testimony to 20 years composing and writing his vast repertoire of songs. His natural ability to combine melody with poetic observations and imagery, creates songs with different grooves and feels, to engage and entertain the audience in a concert performance.
